I started as a Pangarap scholar when I was in Grade 10. Before that, I wasn’t formally part of Pangarap. I was just a kid watching from outside the fence because there were always activities, especially during summer like the sportsfest. At that time, I became curious about what was happening inside since I lived right next to the PCDP office, and it was really my dream to join their activities. They looked so fun, and the youth there were leading the activities themselves.
One day, I received the scholarship requirements from Pangarap, and I was overjoyed. During the orientation, I was elected as President of the Children’s Club, and I wanted to join all the organizations of Pangarap, including Task Force Kabataan (TFK). From then on, my daily life became happier and more meaningful as a young person. My perspective grew wider, and I began to understand more about the needs of the youth in our community. Later, I joined the TFK as Secretary, then became Vice President, and eventually was elected President for four years, from 2018 to 2022.
I used to be very shy, but now, everything that Pangarap taught me, I carry with me like the skills in public speaking, facing people formally, and of course, in my studies, from Grade 10 until I finished college. Pangarap also taught me to have heart and passion in what I do, even when no one is watching and even when there is no reward. “If you truly love what you are doing, you will never get tired of it, you will embrace it”. That’s why, until now, whenever I have free time, I still go to Pangarap to join activities, especially with TFK. In return, this is my way of giving back by guiding the young leaders of Pangarap step by step towards success.
Today, I give back by guiding young leaders in Pangarap, reminding them that “a great leader must first be a great follower.” I use my voice to inspire the youth to manage their time, build confidence, and share their ideas, because even small contributions can create a big impact. From then until now, I believe my compassion in what I do is the greatest contribution I can give to the youth.
Pangarap shaped not just my future, but also my heart for service, and that is something I will always carry with me.
